Ian Machado Garry is envisioning the perfect event to represent the Irish: a main event featuring the Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chander fight and him facing Colby Covington in the card’s co-main event.

The timeline of McGregor’s return remains a question in the MMA world, but different fighters are already expressing interest in the Irish superstar’s comeback. Garry, who is also Irish, is thrilled about the fellow fighter’s return. “The Future” is not targeting McGregor but is interested in joining him in the main card of his comeback event.

For Garry, both of them making the main event and co-main event of the card will be “the perfect way to represent the Irish.” And his suggestion? For the UFC to put him against Covington, with whom he has bad blood,

“There’s a certain superstar called Conor McGregor; he’s looking to fight in July in International Fight Week against Michael Chandler,” Garry said in an interview with Eurosport. “That’s a huge fight. You have the biggest superstar of all time in the sport, but he’s also Irish.

“What’s the perfect way to represent the Irish? To put me in the co-main event, fighting ‘Chaos’ Colby Covington,” Garry continued. “So you’ve got Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler main event, co-main, Ian Machado Garry vs. Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington. That would be a big night for the Irish, a big night for the UFC, and a big night in my book to silence that mouthpiece.”

Garry’s callout for Covington is not new, as the fighter already expressed interest in that fight during his past interviews. Luckily for Garry, Covington is also considering him, given the animosity between them. For the 26-year-old, fighting “Chaos” will not just be a simple match but also a vengeance. To recall, both Covington and Sean Strickland echoed rumors about Garry’s wife, leading to their beef, which continues to this day.

“I am going to box the ears off Colby Covington for the things he’s said, and there isn’t gonna be anybody in that world or in this octagon who’s going to be able to save, save him,” Garry said in January. “I promise you now, I’ll finish him, and I’ll do it in three rounds. I don’t need five rounds to finish it. I’ll do it in two, I’ll do it in one. Colby Covington is going to be slapped, and I hope I hit him so hard that he’s never able to speak again. And I feel like a lot of people on this planet would be very happy that he never gets to speak on a mic again. So that’s what I’d like with Colby.”
