Looks like its no holds barred in the McGregor vs. Mayweather rivalry…

Since UFC 194, Conor McGregor’s hold on the world of MMA has got a lot tighter. Knocking out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds, as he’d predicted, McGregor was instantly granted a title shot at lightweight.

Unfortunately for ‘The Notorious,’ it was instead Nate Diaz who stepped in the octagon at UFC 196. Many believed McGregor would walk through the out-of-camp Diaz who stepped in on 11 days notice.

Although McGregor was submitted in short order that March 5th night, just over a year later he’s on the cusp of the biggest fight possible.

McGregor vs. Mayweather

Initially starting as a few bits of banter, the rivalry between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is coming close to fruition. With support, albeit with a cost, from his UFC employers, McGregor appears to be free to debut in the boxing world.

Obviously this has meant a spike in the trash talk, and most of it from McGregor’s side. Check out the latest offering of verbal hammering from the Irishman’s coach John Kavanagh:

Kavanagh Rips Floyd

Speaking with Complex, SBG boss John Kavanagh points out Mayweather’s history with ‘woman beating’ and more:

“I do think Floyd Mayweather is pretty much a dirtbag,” Kavanagh said, before referencing the domestic violence allegations that have been made against the boxer in the past. “He’s beat up his girlfriends. I’ve watched [clips from Mayweather’s boxing gym] The Dog House.”

“He just strikes me as a real bully-type character. He makes these guys fight each other endless rounds until one is badly hurt. He’s just not a good individual.”

Bad Money?

“I’m a fan of his skills, but as a human being, the way he runs his gym, the way he carries himself—I mean, it is a little bit of an exchange of styles like that, so we’ll see what happens,” he said.

“[McGregor is] already pretty much a legend in Ireland folklore at this stage. But to do that [fight Mayweather]—what can I do except tip my hat to him that he’s embracing this challenge? He wants to fight one of the best boxers of all time.”

Word on the grapevine is that Mayweather vs. McGregor could even be as close to going down summer. Assuming that’s the case, this kind of trash talk will pale in comparison once the fight is made official.
