Cian Cowley Responds to Media About His New York Court Appearance With UFC Star Conor McGregor…

Conor McGregor and his friend and follower Cian Cowley were in court yesterday, June 14, following their incredible full-scale assault of Brooklyn’s Barclay Center last April, in the build-up to UFC 224. The two men were charged with several counts of criminal assault and criminal mischief and were initially released on bail.

The pair came back to New York for their court date yesterday – flown over by McGregor’s private jet. Their appearance in front of the judge lasted for a mere 45 seconds. They lodged a plea agreement and then went on their way.

In a statement, McGregor’s legal representatives made it very clear that – publically at least – ‘The Notorious’ was very sorry and understood the full cost of his actions. However, Cowley clearly wasn’t reading from the same script because he showed little or no remorse at all. At least he’s not a hypocrite.

Blown Out of Proportion

According to Cowley, the whole situation has been exaggerated and blown out of proportion by the media. When asked whether or not he thought his chances of fighting in the UFC would be affected by what happened, he replied:

“No. Doubt it, to be honest. No. Sure what was it? It was nothing. Just get it out of the way and that’s it then. Just stay, keep the head down, back to work. Well, I have been working away anyway, there was nothing, it was just all blown, I don’t know, it was all blown up.”

Well hmmm… it’s not like it was captured on smartphones and the UFC Embedded video cameras, or that two fighters suffered facial injuries during the attack, or that four fights were pulled from UFC 223, or that property was destroyed. Of course, we’re exaggerating.

Return Date

The two men have been instructed to return to Brooklyn’s Superior Court on July 26. It’s believed that it will all be settled on that date and that both men will effectively get off with community service or some similar light penalty for their ridiculous behavior. Audie Attar, McGregor’s manager confirmed that he expected it all to be over by then.

‘The Notorious’ himself has yet to release any sort of personal statement. He had a spokesperson do so on his behalf. She effectively gave nothing away except that he was sorry. The representative read:

“I regret my actions that lead to today. I understand the seriousness of this matter and I am hopeful this will get worked out. Thank you, everyone.”

Sorry Not Sorry

If you’re expecting some sort of negative impact on either man’s career, because of all this media attention then you’re definitely mistaken. Assuming they get off, it could be the making of both men’s career. McGregor is expected to fight Khabib Nurmagamedov in October and you can’t tell me that the promotion won’t be insane after all of this.

Meanwhile, Cowley gave his own thoughts on his rise from anonymity. He’s only fought twice professionally with a record of 1-1. Now though, the world knows who he is. The young fighter somewhat smugly said:

“Fox News! Sky News! I was a name before that. Now it’s gone from being people in the fight scene knowing me to just normal Joe Soaps knowing me. You decide yourself whether that’s a good or bad thing.”
