Tyron Woodley Has Released an Update on Floyd Mayweather’s MMA Training…

Yes, that’s right, Tyron Woodley is back at it again. The UFC welterweight champion has posted another update on Floyd Mayweather’s MMA training. Long story short, he’s due to start training next week. Ok, that definitely doesn’t mean he’s going to fight anytime soon, but it is interesting to know that he’s definitely going to give it ago.

Mayweather is one of the most polarizing figures in combat sports. Arguably the greatest defensive boxer of all time, he has an incredible 50-0 unbeaten record and is the richest athlete in the world. That’s why he calls himself ‘Money.’

Now at the age of 41, the rumors persist that he’s ready to step into the Octagon in search of one last massive payday. It would be sheer insanity and these stories are tiring, so let it happen and hopefully, it will entertain people to see him leg-kicked to bits.

Great Hands

Obviously, he’s an elite boxer so you’d imagine his stand-up game would be pretty good. That’s T-Wood’s opinion anyway. Their main focus will be takedown defense and dealing with all the grappling end of the MMA spectrum. That’s the plan anyway.

“I just talked to Floyd. He was in Singapore…somewhere else,” Woodley said during an Instagram Live session earlier this week. “I just talked to him a couple of days ago. So when he get back in town next week, me and him are going to start training.

Mayweather has literally just spent the last few weeks traveling across Asia. He’s been to places like Dubai, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Basically, he’s loving life and why not? He’s got the money. The question is though whether or not he’s taking this whole MMA thing seriously or if it’s just a billionaire’s whim.

Who to Fight?

The UFC would bend over backward if it meant making a deal to let Mayweather fight once with the organization. The only person who likes money as much as ‘Money’ is UFC President Dana White. There’s already been the talk of the boxer fighting under modified rules with MMA gloves.

Of course, there remains the problem of who does he fight? Conor McGregor is the obvious name but that could end with bits of Mayweather being scraped up off of the mats. The Irishman is an elite talent when it comes to MMA, regardless of his antics outside the ring and his inability to defend his belts. It remains difficult to say.

Trouble at Home

Meanwhile, Mayweather has to sort out the trouble in his own camp first. His best young boxer, Gervonta Davis – a double world champion – is openly feuding with his promoter and mentor. That is not good either for business or for Mayweather’s personal reputation. He needs to de-escalate that situation.

Needless to say, Mayweather is going to busy over the next few weeks. Maybe training in MMA will be a good distraction from all of the rest of the stuff that he has to deal with. Money can’t buy you everything.
