Is Kevin Holland fighting too much for his own good?

Kevin Holland might be the most active UFC fighter right now. He had one of the most fantastic run for the year 2020, going 5-0 and even stopped Ronaldo Souza while on his back. That is an amazing feat to have but you are also risking your body’s recovery time and probably lack of preparations.

There is a reason why most champions don’t fight as often as they can, it is because they make sure that they are in their top shape come fight night. One of the most important aspect in staying in shape is recovery or some might say rest. Body needs rest especially those who train or perform often.

Although being inactive is also a bad thing since it can lead to ring rust. For some fighters, they don’t believe in ring rust but it is hard to perform the same way if you have been a year-off from the sport. In boxing, some boxers even need a tune-up fight before facing a title fight.

In UFC, it is a bit rare to see a tune-up fight since they have a ranking system that the best fight the best.

Back to the main topic, is Kevin Holland fighting too often. He just lost to Derek Brunson in a one sided decision and now he is fighting Marvin Vettori on short notice. It might difficult for him since this time, he is not riding on a win streak. Of course, the reward is much bigger than the risk since he is expected to lose, but a loss is still a loss.

His last performance, Dana White was not impressed since he seemed like he did have that urgency to win the fight. Obviously, he wanted to win but it was just that for the audience watching he just did not stop talking and was just okay losing the fight.

Marvin Vettori is no joke, he is a really good fighter that just beat Jack Hermansson. His last loss was against Israel Adesanya and it was a split decision loss, since then he is riding on 4 fight win streak. He was originally scheduled to face Darren Till but then Till pulled out due to an injury.

There were also other fighters that fought often, one notable was Donald Cerrone. He may have been the most active UFC fighter in history and he also owns the record for most wins in UFC history, but one thing Cerrone never got was the title. He had title shots but failed to win on the biggest stage.

One thing for sure is, Kevin Holland likes to fight but if he wants to have a great legacy he should make a safer approach. His mentality is great for the UFC but if he losses a lot of times he may get cut soon. Although if he wins, his ranking will go up in no time. It is a double edge sword.
