Damn, this dude is extremely dangerous…
The murky world of underground bareknuckle boxing is filled with interesting and scary characters. From wild brawlers with nothing to lose, to unlikely stories like men nearing OAP age competing with youngsters, the bareknuckle realm has it all.
Although there are legal BKB promotions in the UK and America, it’s still a very taboo sport. For that reason, and many others, bareknuckle boxing is making a comeback. Before the marquess of Queensbury rules were introduced, this is how all boxers fought.
Bareknuckle Boxer Seth Jones
Meet Seth Jones, a now-50-year old man who fights in the bareknuckle circuit around the United Kingdom. Know as ‘The Bangor Hammer,’ Jones competes in the brutal world of BKB against men half his age.
Jones is a former drug smuggler, convict, professional boxer and is now a solicitor. As if all of that wasn’t crazy enough, he’s now pursuing greatness as a bareknuckle boxer. Wins and losses aside, this guy is a scary prospect, even for men half his age.
Watch this video of Seth Jones shredding a far younger opponent, and continue reading below:
“Being a bit of a thug, then a bit of a drug smuggler and going to prison. Then I realised, you know, this is not the life. That’s just the nature of BKB, I’ve fought guys older than myself, younger than myself.”
“That’s just the nature of fighting. I used to have a lot of street fights, built up a bit of a reputation for myself. Then I realised this isn’t the life for me. I decided to go back to school and studied law.”
Vice Mini Documentary
The following clip, and above quotes, are courtesy of documentary makers ‘Vice.’ Their insight in to the world of Seth Jones is as informative as it is truly bizarre, and also somewhat inspiring:
“I spoke to Andy and he said the aim of B/BAD is to legitimise the sport and take it away from the underground.” Seth Jones said during an interview with North Wales News.
“The whole philosophy of legitimising the sport is why I stepped in and gave Andy some help. It wasn’t an illegal sport, it just needed some sanctions in place like boxing and mixed martial arts.
“Andy offered me a fight a couple of years ago and I took it. It was against Matt Thorn, and I didn’t know how it would go. It wasn’t exactly easy – but I won the fight.”
“It’s just certain aspects that needed changing.” said Seth.
“Now it’s refereed and controlled. There’s been no serious injuries so far, just a few bumps and bruises but that’s the nature of the job.
“If it’s a fair fight, I’ll fight anyone, and so far it’s been a pleasure.“
“I was a pro boxer, I had quite a lot of injuries and didn’t really have anything else going for on so I got into the wrong side of life.
“Over the last five years I’ve been aiming to re-build myself. I’m back now to where I should have been all along.
“My life’s really come right round on itself.
“Now I’m aiming to get into the legal profession.”
