This 53-year old man deserves everyone’s respect…

Ever wondered what it would be like to get plucked from the crowd and asked to perform? Most people have imagined this scenario at a rock concert or some sort of similar scenario, but what about a fight?

Arguably the toughest and most dangerous sport on the planet, mixed martial arts is not something you can just get up off the bar stool and do successfully. Well, not for the majority of us, anyway.

Then there’s this guy…

Stephan Bonnar’s Hero

During an insane moment at ‘Fire Extreme Fighting,’ a 53-year old spectator accepts a fight on one hour’s notice. The story gets even crazier when you realise his opponent is less than half his age, 21-years old.

The odds of beating a fighter his own age who’d been through training camp would be tough. Against a 21-year old fighter who is faster and has the potential to KO you stiff, those odds are long indeed.

As you’ll see from the following clip, it was Ultimate Fighter and UFC/Bellator veteran Stephan Bonnar who actually filmed the fight take place…

What An Incredible Comeback For The Knockout

After being wobbled by the younger man’s punches, 53-year old Tim Karaker scored a cracker of a knockout win. Stephan Bonnar’s ‘new hero’ is yet to fight again, but is strangely not the oldest man to debut in MMA.

Creepy 62-Year Old With KO Power

Although the story behind this fight is unclear, we can certainly say its a crazy situation. The bearded-bald man with the tapout tee shirt is 62 years old, yes, 62! He’s fighting a 24-year old, and scores another win for the oldies.

Old Men Have Power!

Since we were on the subject of UFC veteran Stephan Bonnar, here he is discussing with Bloody Elbow about his life since retiring. Not surprisingly, he’s making better money now he’s stopped working for the UFC:

For the last year I’ve been day trading, and I’m pretty serious about it. I wake up at the crack of dawn, and it’s something that I’m really hungry for. I put a lot of time and energy into it, and I’m pretty good at it. Once I made a good trade and made 5 grand, I’m like, ‘Holy shit! Why would I bust my ass for 3 days at an Expo making 10 grand and having to put 7 grand back into the company when I can just learn a little bit about this trade?’

All you need is an internet connection. You’ve got no boss. You can do it in your underwear [laughs]. It gives me a way to make good money while I check shit off my bucket list. That’s how I look at it; it gives me the financial freedom to pursue the crazy childhood dreams I have been wanting to accomplish.

I know I’m only 37, but in 5 or 10 years, I might be too old to do some of the things on my list, so I’m checking shit off. I’ve been surfing a few times, but I just got the hang of it yesterday. I finally got up on the board, and it wasn’t a fluke. I rode the wave in and I was able to do it again and again. It clicked and was exciting.
