Did You See This Coming? Brock Lesnar Looks Set to Get the Next UFC Heavyweight Title Shot After Daniel Cormier Challenged Him to a Fight…
Firstly, it’s absolutely spectacular just how easily Daniel Cormier finished Stipe Miocic. Yes, he took a couple of minutes to adjust to the former champion’s height and range, but in the end, the power and combination were devastating. ‘DC’s record of 14-0 as a heavyweight stacks up against the best. You get the feeling that Cain Velasquez has robbed his career.
DC now stands for ‘Double Champion’ because guess what? That’s what he is. The 39-year-old Louisiana native has thrown off the shadow of Jon Jones and now simultaneously holds the UFC light-heavyweight and heavyweight titles, matching Conor McGregor achievement with the 145 and 155lb belts.
The drama didn’t end there. Nope. Former champion Brock Lesnar was called out by Cormier, in a moment of pure WWE theatre. It all got a little bit crazy and OTT. Credit to the new champion though, because he came off well.

Ludicrous
It capped a crazy end to an equally crazy night – for good and bad reasons. Cormier called Lesnar who, who marched into the cage and gave the new champion a shove for good measure. It was so obviously staged that it was a little bit painful. Lesnar then told Joe Rogan:
“Let me tell you something! I walk into this building and watched the heavyweight disasters from the beginning. Ngannou’s a piece of s**t. Miocic’s a piece of s**t. DC! I’m coming for you motherf****r!”
Ok then. The Las Vegas crowd absolutely loved it, but there’s going to be a lot of questions asked about this in the MMA world. It could also mean that Cormier leaves the light-heavyweight title to one side because he’s said that he’d like heavyweight fights against Lesnar and Jon Jones to finish his career.

Drug Ban
The elephant in the room is that Lesnar has already made a UFC return. He fought Mark Hunt at UFC 200, back in 2016. His win was overturned to a no-contest after he tested positive for Clomiphene. He was promptly hit with a ban and fine. Mark Hunt’s relationship with the UFC has been irreparably damaged ever since.
But the beautiful thing about USADA is that while in theory, Lesnar has six months left to run on his ban, there’s no obligation for the fighter or the drug testers to say when he entered the testing pool. He could be in it right now and we don’t know.

Super Superfight?
There’s no doubt that anything involving Lesnar will serve up massive PPV numbers. Does he deserve a title shot? Absolutely not. Does Alexander Volkov? Probably. Will there be major problems if Lesnar beats DC? Yes of course. Does Dana White care? What do you think?
“Push me now. You’re going to sleep later,” Cormier told Lesnar as they were separated. “Your day is in the past, 2010, it’s like the stone age!”
The UFC is suddenly on fire. Meanwhile, Daniel Cormier is one of the greatest of all time.
