You Can Never Rule Donald Cerrone Out… Cowboy Won Against Mike Perry With a Devastating 1st Round Submission…

This was a genuine grudge match. It was a battle between the man who left Jackson-Winkeljohn Gym, and the man who effectively replaced him. Donald Cerrone has been vocal in his criticism and fury about the acrimonious way he left the Albuquerque training centre and was determined to have revenge.

Mike Perry was the perfect antagonist. Love him or hate him, Perry is pure entertainment. Coming off the back of a war against Paul Felder, he looked like he’d also turned a corner in his own fighting performances as well. Many fans believed that this was going to be a brutal war, with Perry adamant he was going to wreak further damage on Cerrone’s softened chin.

It didn’t turn out that way. Watch the footage below and see Cowboy put an early end to Perry’s night with a vicious submission win in the first round.

Highlight

The fight was taking place in the co-main event of UFC Denver. The crowd was definitely on ‘Cowboy’s’ side. It started with a swing and a miss for Perry who got tied up by the canny Cowboy against the fence. Cerrone chopped at his leg with a kick. After trying to take Perry down, the Michigan native managed to get Cerrone to the floor – but ended up reversed.

Cerrone took Perry’s back but was too high up on his opponent’s back. However, Cerrone was just too slick for Perry, who tried to slam out of an armbar attempt but ended up in a worse position. He tapped out in the final minute of the first round.

Broken Arm

After the fight, Perry tweeted: “Good job @Cowboycerrone you broke my damn arm.” That’s what happens when you don’t tap out in time folks. It was a miserable end to the night for ‘Platinum’ who has now lost three of his last four and appears to have reached his ceiling in the UFC.

For ‘Cowboy’ it was an outstanding achievement and one that he’ll relish after all the bad blood that’s passed between him and Winkeljohn. He now holds the most record for the most wins (21) and finishes (15) in the history of UFC, which are a stamp on the career of a magnificent fighter who has always brought it when he’s stepped into the octagon. Like Mark Hunt, he’ll never win a UFC title but it doesn’t matter to the fans.
