Is This What Caused Cain Velasquez’s Knees to Buckle? Francis Ngannou Definitely Landed a Shot to the Former Heavyweight Champion’s Chin… Watch the Clip Below to See Him Connect With an Uppercut, Before Velasquez’s Knee Collapses…
Francis Ngannou must surely be the most physically intimidating opponent on the UFC roster. Yes, we know, there is a formula to beat the giant Cameroonian, as proven by Stipe Miocic. But that doesn’t mean he can’t spark your lights out in a split-second, as Cain Velasquez found out in Phoenix, Arizona.
This fight was widely hyped as the third coming of Velasquez, believed by many to be one of the three greatest heavyweights in the history of the UFC – alongside Stipe Miocic and Fabricio Werdum (obviously Fedor is the best ever in MMA). However, it ended badly for the AKA fighter when Ngannou beat him in 26 seconds.
Many fans believed that Ngannou got lucky because Velasquez’s knee gave out on him. However, it has since been proven, that ‘The Predator’s’ win was entirely legitimate because he connected with an uppercut that looks like it caused Velasquez’s knees to buckle. Check out the clip below and judge for yourself.
New Angle
From the clip above, you can clearly see that Ngannou definitely connects with Velasquez’s chin. If you’re doubting the power behind the shot, remember, the former title contender weighed in 10lbs heavier than Velasquez, and could have blown up even heavier on the night. He’s also got a history of missile-like uppercuts, including that famous shot against Alistair Overeem.
Velasquez himself admitted that he shot for the takedown too early when he should have allowed Ngannou to burn himself by moving around more. He’s not called ‘Cardio’ Cain for no reason, and we didn’t get to see that.
Title Shot?
This could have massive implications for Ngannou’s future. As he correctly said, a win over Cain Velasquez is title shot material, and with the heavyweight division so thin, it’s really possible that he’ll get it.
“I think what should be next for me is the title shot,” Ngannou told reporters at the UFC on ESPN 1 post-fight press conference.
“I think Cain is the one that the victory against him, after that, you deserve a title shot. For Brock Lesnar, he’s just walking around talking shit, but he never shows up for a fight, so let’s see.”
Down to Fight
Of course, it depends on whatever Brock Lesnar decides to do, but champion Daniel Cormier has said that he’s down. In his long battle to avoid a rematch against Stipe Miocic, Cormier told ESPN:
“Every time you see something like that, the emotions tell you, you go get it back, you go make it right.” But Francis Ngannou, who didn’t ask for a fight, maybe later he will, and if that’s something we decide we want to do, then that’s what I’ll do.
“I won’t go fight Francis Ngannou. I will beat Francis Ngannou.”
