It’s certainly been a rough year for fans and athletes of combat sports. We’ve lost a number of highly popular fighters over the course of 2016, one of whom was arguably a pioneer of mainstream MMA culture.

Fighting his way up from the streets as a sensational Youtube brawler, Kimbo Slice gained recognition through stints in the UFC, professional boxing and Bellator MMA. He also took part in the first nationally televised MMA fight in Elite XC.

Kimbo’s sudden passing came as a huge shock to his family, fans and all those who had worked with him in the sports industry. He suffered a fatal heart failure after initially exhibiting symptoms of pneumonia on June 6, 2016.

What a few of you may not know is that Kimbo Slice’s son is a pretty handy fighter too. After being pegged for a bright future in college and potentially pro football, Kevin Ferguson Jr. made the switch to MMA.
