Conor McGregor Remains a Divisive Figure… Joe Rogan Says it is Time to Show Some Respect…

If there is one thing that Joe Rogan is sensitive about, it’s being called a UFC ‘Yes Man’. The long-serving commentator is one of the faces most familiar to fans of MMA, but he’s always been able to maintain some distance from the UFC’s views. Not least when it comes to Conor McGregor.

Speaking on his MMA podcast this week, Rogan discussed McGregor’s attitude problems. He spoke to ONE commentator, musician, and martial artist, Robin Black about the differences between the UFC and its Asian counterpart. According to Black, McGregor would never succeed in Asia.

The ‘Notorious’ has been involved in a variety of unsavory incidents over the past year. He’s been accused of homophobia and sexism, he’s disrupted MMA events and shoved referees. And of course, he flew over 20 goons to attack a bus carrying Khabib Nurmagamedov.

Stupid

Rogan has immense respect for McGregor’s abilities as a fighter. That’s only fair because he is a master of psychological warfare. In fights with Jose Aldo, Dustin Poirier, and Eddie Alvarez, the battle was won before they set foot in the cage. Rogan condemned what happened in New York. He said:

“I hate to see things like what happened in New York. In Brooklyn. He threw the dolly at the bus, smashed the window. It’s like so f**king stupid. All that thuggish s**t… running in with a bunch of guys and everyone screaming… what did Khabib do?”

The UFC veteran also mentioned that Artem Lobov had originally started it all by calling Khabib a ‘coward’. There was no need for the situation to escalate the way it did. Now McGregor faces a day in court on June 14.

Selfish

Rogan believes that attacking the bus like McGregor did was pointless and unproductive. It’s terrible for the Irishman’s image, bad for business if he gets blocked from the US, and selfish because it affected other fighters. He said:

“You just can’t throw a dolly at a bus filled with other fighters because it’s so selfish. I mean all those people who got cut… I mean Ray Borg got cuts in his eyes. The whole thing is a disaster.”

That could also have major implications for McGregor’s future. Fellow lightweight Michael Chiesa has said that he plans on hitting the ‘Notorious’ with lawsuits. McGregor might have $100 million in the bank, but he may be tempted back to fight soon to pay off his debts.

Return

The UFC remains optimistic that McGregor will make his long-awaited return this year. He hasn’t fought since November 2016, when he took the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez and became the first UFC fighter to hold two belts at the same time.

UFC President Dana White confirmed that negotiations between the company and the ‘Notorious’ will take place in Liverpool, following the Fight Night that takes place this weekend. It’s unknown at this stage what impact McGregor’s legal position will have on his standing in the company. Just give us Conor vs Khabib!
