Jon Jones Unleashes His Inner Beast as He Punches Pads at Jackson-Wink MMA in Albuquerque… He’s Also Been Tested by USADA For The First Time This Year…

Jon Jones represents the most disappointing figure in MMA. The 3-time light-heavyweight champion would undoubtedly be universally regarded as the Greatest of All Time if it wasn’t for the asterisks that stain his career.

Failed drug tests and behavior generally unbecoming a champion have caused him to be stripped of his titles 3 times. After testing positive for turinabol, following his rematch with Daniel Cormier in 2017, his KO win was overturned and DC was reinstated as champion.

Now though, Jones is on the comeback trail. Videos of him punching pads have gone viral across the internet, and he’s truly looking like a scary proposition. If we’re right, he looks like he could be carrying a bit more weight than before, giving him more one-punch power.

Power

Despite being an excellent fighter, Jones doesn’t have an exemplary record of knocking people. Yes, he head-kick KOed Daniel Cormier into oblivion, but that doesn’t count anymore. Before that fight, he ran up 4 decision wins, with his previous most recent TKO win coming against Chael Sonnen in 2013. It’s definitely one area of his game he can improve.

If you watch the footage below though, you’ll see that he’s looking quite terrifying. Each time he hits the pad there’s a massive snapping thud. Not only is he hitting heavy, he’s also hitting fast. That’s a scary proposition for any fighter who could potentially be facing him next.

Comeback

Whisper it, but it also looks like ‘Bones’ is moving quickly along the comeback trail. He’s been officially tested by USADA for the first time this year. The UFC Vice-President of Athlete’s Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky explained why USADA could be more lenient on Joe Rogan’s MMA Show:

“It would not make a lot of sense for an individual, a UFC athlete, especially a championship contender like Jon Jones who knew, ‘I’m tested quite regularly in this program’ – it would not make a lot of sense that that would be your drug of choice if you’re trying to cheat.

“I think it’s come out after the fact that USADA did another test on Jon a month or two months after his positive test, and he was negative. So that would be indicative that the prohibited substance entered his system sometime after July 7th or 8th, and that was likely a pretty small amount and that cleared his system pretty quickly.”

Heavyweight?

All the signs are pointing towards a comeback at heavyweight in November. Jones’s camp fully believes that he’ll be back in action in 2018, and UFC 230 is still without a main event. This could mean a huge fight against a former champion.

The news broke yesterday that the UFC has offered Curtis Blaydes a rematch against Francis Ngannou. This is significant because Blaydes has been calling out Stipe Miocic over the past few weeks. Right now, Miocic looks like the most likely next fight for Jon Jones. If Bones were to win that, then you can bet that Daniel Cormier’s retirement plans might be put off.
