This is one of the most exciting match-ups in MMA today. Khabib Nurmagamedov and Tony Ferguson will duke it out at UFC 249 on April 18 in Brooklyn, New York. It’s a clash between UFC lightweight champion Khabib and the former interim champion Ferguson. We’ve waited for too long.
In fact, this is the fifth time it’s been booked. Of course, the MMA Gods could strike down their terrible curse from above and riddle New York with the coronavirus. But hopefully, we finally get the fight we’ve all been waiting for. Tensions are already escalating between the two men. This is going to be a good one.
The pair showed up in Las Vegas for their UFC 249 press conference. Typically it all got a little heated and weird because El Cucuy was in the house. Check out the footage below of this moment between the two warriors. Who have you got winning this fight?
Khabib really kicked Ferguson’s belt on stage 😳 #UFC249

These two men don’t like each other. It’s not quite as tense as Khabib’s rivalry with Conor McGregor, but that makes India and Pakistan look like best friends. Ferguson believes that he is still the rightful champion because he was only stripped of his interim title after getting injured. Since then he’s fought twice against Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone and won both in style.
Meanwhile, Khabib got his title in bizarre circumstances after beating Al Iaquinta. However, he’s validated his claim to be champion by beating both McGregor and Dustin Poirier. There’s no doubt that they’re the two best lightweights in the world right now.
Including all that build up vs Conor McGregor, I’ve never seen Khabib more pissed than when Tony Ferguson questioned his street fighting ability. These two are amazing together. #UFC249 pic.twitter.com/iftw5oYjkZ

The two men went back-and-forth at the faceoff. Khabib greeted Ferguson by calling him ‘sunglasses.’ Meanwhile, El Cucuy slandered Khabib’s weight, comparing him to heavyweight Daniel Cormier. We’re not sure why he was wearing those gloves but Tony does whatever he wants to be honest. That’s also why he brought a baseball.
Then he put his belt down on the ground to strike a pose. He told Khabib to put his belt down too but the Russian had another idea. Instead, he decided to give Ferguson’s former interim title an almighty kick. Surprisingly, Ferguson didn’t explode then-and-there. But it was definitely incredibly disrespectful. It also probably stole the press conference for Khabib.
I’ve been saying this since the 2nd time they’ve been scheduled to fight. NO ONE can get under Khabib’s skin like Tony has consistently. Let’s see how this plays out ! pic.twitter.com/MsWD9KOgfA

Clash of Styles
How do you even describe Ferguson’s style? He’s an extremely unorthodox fighter who uses elements from BJJ, Wing Chun, Muay Thai, and wrestling. His trademark submission is the D’Arce choke. Most fighters leave the cage after fighting him with a minced up face from his vicious elbows. You never know what he’s going to do.
Khabib’s approach is much easier to describe because he does the same thing in every fight. He looks to take you down before landing ground-and-pound from top position until you give up or give him the chance for a submission. Nobody has been able to cope with his relentless style.
The Eagle is the favorite but Ferguson is dangerous. He’s got cardio for days and is so difficult to read. This has the potential to be one of the greatest fights of all time.
