Check This Out… A Russian MMA Fighter Went Full Hollywood With an Insane Flying Slam and Crucifix Combination That Was Surely the Finish of the Week…

The regional scene is a goldmine for ludicrous highlight reel moments. It’s easy to miss them when you’re concentrating on the big leagues like the UFC and Bellator, but that’s why we’re here. While the top promotions do provide some outstanding moments, of course, some of the crazier, wackier stuff tends to happen on the regional scene.

Russia and Eurasia is a hotbed of MMA talent right now. So many wrestlers and other martial artists are emerging from the region and converting to MMA. You only need to look at the likes of high-level fighters such as Khabib Nurmagamedov, Zabit Magomedsharipov, Petr Yan, Islam Machekev and Alexander Volkov to name but a few operating at the top of the game.

But have any of them landed a flying slam/crucifix TKO combination? We don’t think so. Check this wildness out.

This was just stupidly violent. Islam Tsechoev was fighting Gagasha Imamaliev at Fight Nights Global 93 in Moscow. According to, this was Tsechoev’s professional debut, and boy did he bid to make a name for himself in style. He managed to land not one, but two WWE-style slams. The second was insane. A high flying slam that smashed Imamaliev to the floor.

Immediately he moved in and secured the crucifix position, before landing vicious elbow ground-and-pound to finish off his stricken opponent. It’s definitely one of the wildest sequences we’ve seen so far this year and kudos to Novosibirsk native for securing a highlight reel finish on his debut.

Deja Vu

When is the last time you’ve seen a flying slam/crucifix combination in the UFC? Well, Tsechoev’s wasn’t even the first of the night. That honour went to Magomedzagid Isalov, who did the same thing to Gadzhimagomed Magomadov. While he also secured the crucifix position, he went for a keylock submission instead of raining down the nasty elbows. What a nice guy.

On a night of sheer stupid excitement in Moscow, we were also treated to this gem of a rear-naked choke by Magomed Isaev. It looked like he was trying to put on a sleeper hold but then he decided to go crazy and chuck Arman Karapetyan on his head. Then Isaev jumped onto his back and sunk in the rear-naked choke. That was all she wrote.

Golden Era

We are truly in a golden era of MMA. The UFC is slowly gaining a genuine competitor in ONE Championship, which can only be good for the sport. Meanwhile, the likes of Bellator and RIZIN are also making waves with inter-champion fights going down.

It’s really not that long ago when the sport was being labelled as human cockfighting. As a fight fan, you’ve just got to love the sheer variety of devastation that comes with an MMA fight. Keep an eye on the regional scene, because that’s where you’ll catch some absolute gems.
