You Just Have to Love the Regional Scene… Yet Another Ridiculous Highlight Reel Moment That One Fighter Will Always Want to Forget, But Now The Whole World Will Remember…

The regional scene of MMA is a truly special place. It’s where young fighters cut their teeth, gaining valuable fighting experience and try to improve their records so that they can attract the eye of a bigger promotion. Most people fail to make it, and many amateur fighters are grizzled veterans just doing it for a love of competition.

Battlefield Fight League is just one of a million different small promotions in the world. They’ve all got the same sort of name, like Cage Rage, Cage Wars, Cage Warriors… The list goes on and on. This week’s highlight moment comes straight from a video game.

Austin Batra is a pretty solid young fighter, but he won’t want to look back at this moment of madness where he decided that he was a character from Streetfighter. Take a look at the footage below, it’s absolutely ridiculous.

Dominant

This is one of the craziest things we’ve ever seen in a cage. Batra was fighting Perry Hayer at BFL 57, in Coquitlam, British Colombia, Canada. He manages to KO his opponent with a vicious left hook. However, then he manages to go and ruin his moment of glory with what you just watched.

He decided the right thing to do was to throw himself over the referee and smash down on Hayer with a huge flying downward hammer fist strike. He honestly thought he was Thor or someone because it was that sort of epic insanity. You just can’t do stuff like that in an MMA fight – especially not when your opponent has already been laid out unconscious.

DQ

Unfortunately for Batra, who must be regretting his life decisions, his lunacy resulted in his disqualification. To add insult to injury, Perry Hayer – the dude who was laid out stone cold – was given the BFL amateur welterweight title. It was a bizarre twist to a crazy series of events.

We can’t help but think that it was a bit harsh to give Hayer the title. He WAS knocked unconscious. Surely a rematch should be on the cards? Now that this video has gone viral, get the pair of them on youtube, and you’re guaranteed an audience.

Lesson Learned?

So basically don’t do flying double ax handle strikes, especially when your opponent is totally helpless. Clearly, Batra has been watching Herb Dean’s recent performances and thought, well, MMA referees aren’t that great these days. Can’t blame him for trying. Now he moves to 4-2 as an amateur, while Hayer has an Artem Lobovesque record of 6-7.

It’s great footage, but still not quite as good as the heavyweight fighter who decided to do a front flip off his opponent after knocking him out. If you’ve forgotten that one, we’ve left it up there for you as a bonus. Enjoy! Forget Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series… we want a documentary on the regional scene.
