Fan Favorite ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry Has Classy Response to Brutal Eye Injury…

Mike Perry is quickly becoming one of the most popular fighters on the entire roster of the UFC. The brash American is not afraid to say what he thinks. He’s conquered a drug addiction to become a bonafide fan-favorite for the organization.

Unfortunately for the American, he has now dropped two decision losses in a row. The first was against Santiago Ponzinibbio back in December. Now he’s coming off the back of a defeat against Max Griffin. This one will have hurt even more because it was in front of his local crowd. After getting back to back wins before this, Perry will need time to recover.

His outspoken style and rags to riches story make him naturally popular amongst MMA fans. They’ll be impressed by his response to a brutal defeat against Griffin. He was surprisingly dominated throughout the fight, taking some very hard punches. Like the true fight he is, he toughed it out and had a fantastic response to his loss.

Classy Response

Perry posted a video on Twitter, in which he discussed his loss. He spoke about how he would move forward in the future and how it was all part of a greater learning curve. ‘Platinum’ had nothing but classy words for everyone who watched it:

“I will let you see how life hits sometimes. A couple of stitches there. I ain’t afraid of it, though. It’s all a learning lesson. … No shame in my game. I want to thank the UFC staff of being so kind and taking care of everybody. I want to thank the UFC for setting up this even in my hometown and putting me on the card with a bunch of other great athletes. And, uh, I want to wish you guys a good day while I sit here and ice my face.”

That’s how you deal with defeat ladies and gentlemen. Credit where it’s due to Perry. All MMA fans will be hoping that he gets back on track soon because he’s one of the few unique personalities in the sport today.

Not So Classy

It’s a far cry from the exchange that took place between Perry and Colby Covington. The latter is not known for holding back either. He’s happily insulted the entirety of Brazil, so we shouldn’t be surprised that he’s also targeted Perry’s girlfriend. He wrote:

“Hey @PlatinumPerry maybe having your ratchet horse faced girlfriend as your head trainer isn’t the smartest idea on planet earth, but hey when you’re the product of cousins f-king in Ocala FL how strong can your decision making skills be?”

For those wondering, this is Exhibit A of how not to be classy. Covington is obviously trying to talk himself into a fight, and in fairness, it would make sense. A matchup between him and Perry or Darren Till would be foul-mouthed and glorious. However, there is a sense that Covington took it too far by bringing Perry’s girlfriend into it.

Recovery Time

Many pundits believe that Perry didn’t perform as well as he may have liked for two reasons. One is that he didn’t have a long enough recovery after a tough fight against Ponzinibbio. The second is that the pressure of performing in front of local fans was too much for him.

Let’s hope the next time ‘Platinum’ Perry gets back in the octagon, he’s at his absolute best. At the moment he’s a rough diamond when he has the potential to be a superstar. Can you imagine the press conferences if he does fight Covington?
