Colby Covington has to redeem himself after another failure to snatch the welterweight belt. Fortunately, “Chaos” is not short of opponents in the division. Yet, if Josh Thomson and John McCarthy are to be asked, the former interim champ won’t choose Sean Brady as his opponent, with the young fighter being “young” and having “too many difficult attributes for Colby Covington to deal with.”

After losing at UFC 296, Covington became an interesting target for different fighters in the welterweight division. However, the 35-year-old recently chose to call out Stephen Thompson, turning a blind eye to other promising young fighters in the ranking, including Brady. For Thomson and McCarthy, nonetheless, this is not a surprise as taking the budding fighter could be a threat for the veteran UFC talent.

In the latest Weighing In podcast episode, the analyst and former MMA referee expressed interest in seeing the Covington vs. Brady bout. Yet, the two admitted that it would be a fight the former interim welterweight champ would never entertain, with Brady possessing the power of a young MMA fighter, who can be dangerous for someone as old as Covington now.

“I want to see Sean Brady, but I just don’t think Colby wants to fight someone that young, with that much hype around him, with that much confidence,” said Thomson.

McCarthy affirmed the idea, stressing how the emerging MMA fighter could be for Covington, explaining that the veteran could have an issue matching Brady’s power.

“I don’t think he wants Sean Brady,” said McCarthy. “I think at this point in his career, Sean Brady possesses too many difficult attributes for Colby Covington to deal with. He can wrestle, his stand-up is good, he does have power in his hands, and Colby’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t possess that next level of power. He has enough power to make people go ‘okay,’ but not to make them go ‘uh oh.'”

It is unknown what is next for Covington after another title shot failure, but it can be recalled that the fighter promised to stay in the class weight despite the talks that it is time for him to move to another one. In his recent statement, the fighter expressed interest in continuously pursuing the title. However, in pushing that, Brady will be an inevitable opponent in the future for Covington, with the fighter continually making a mark in the division. The 31-year-old still has an impressive record, only having his sole loss to Belal Muhammad in October 2022. If this performance continues, Brady will find himself in the title conversation alongside Covington in the future.
