No.9: Charlie Hunnam
Best known as the star of ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ and blockbuster movies like Pacific Rim, Charlie Hunnam first discovered martial arts as a way to defend himself in his youth.
Under the shadow of his scrap metal merchant father William, who he claims had something of a “gangster vibe” and associated with lots of local tough guys, Hunnam had a violent upbringing and was no stranger to getting into fights.
Hunnam carried on with his martial arts training later in life, taking up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was awarded his blue belt under Rigan Machado in 2018.
The 37-year-old has set himself a goal of becoming a black belt by the time he’s 45 and has also been spotted sharpening his boxing skills, while he’s previously spoken of his desire to spent time training Muay Thai in Thailand and Wing Chun Kung Fu at the Shaolin Temple in China.
Hunnam also has an interest in MMA and has said he’s a “huge Conor McGregor fan,” even attending his fight with Jose Aldo back in 2015.
At the time he told TMZ Sports that his dream is to fight the Irish superstar, though he admits it wouldn’t end well.
“I give myself maybe seven-and-a-half seconds before getting knocked out!”
