Demetrious Johnson

Considering Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson holds the record for the most consecutive title defenses in company history (11) and at his peak was considered the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport by the likes f Dana White, you would have thought that his position in the promotion was bullet-proof.

However, a single loss to Henry Cejudo, by split decision no less, finally brought an end to his 14-fight unbeaten streak in the UFC and resulted in one of the most jaw-dropping deals in the history of the sport.

Just a few months later the UFC announced that Johnson was going to be traded for another undefeated fighter, recently retired ONE FC welterweight champion Ben Askren.

Despite White previously having suggested that Johnson might have been the sport’s best ever fighter, the fact that he was never a big draw for the promotion was apparently of greater concern to the UFC brass.

Johnson would quickly settle into life at ONE FC by winning their flyweight grand-prix with a trio of victories.

Meanwhile, Askren certainly drew more attention than ‘Mighty Mouse,’ but had a disastrousUFC run, including a record 5 second KO loss to Jorge Masvidal, before being submitted by Demain Maia and then announcing his retirement.
