Christian Gonzalez
When doctor’s checked out Christian Gonzalez following his Bellator debut in early 2017 they made a truly bizarre discovery.
After his fight Gonzalez had complained of chest pain, but it wasn’t due to an injury he had sustained during the fight, but rather due to a stab wound he had suffered a week earlier that had reopened.
According to the 6ft 4″ welterweight, he had been stabbed in an unprovoked attack by a friend of a friend on the street.
“I was trying not to be rude, And then he stabbed me,” Gonzalez told Champions.co. “The police caught him later and he’s in jail now. I still have no idea why he did what he did.”
Gonzalez was rushed to hospital where he would remain unresponsive for eight hours, but doctor’s stabilized him and he would go on to spend the next week in bed recovering.
His Bellator fight then loomed that weekend and rather than disappointing his supporters who had bought tickets to see him fight, Gonzalez made a bad decision to fight, which led to him failing to make weight and then being TKO’d by his opponent Daniel Rodriguez the following night.
Afterwards Gonzalez claimed he was only able to fight at 25% due to his injury and vowed to return better than ever, but he was handed an indefinite suspension due to the stab wound and two years later he’s still yet to return to the cage.
