Makwan Amirkhani
In March of 2017, Makwan Amirkhani was at home with family members when his brother’s wife received a call that a friend was in the process of being robbed, and that one of the assailants was wielding a knife.
The UFC fighter and several members of his family rushed to the friend’s home, at which point the robbers attempted to flee and Amirkhani’s brother got into a scuffle with them.
Amirkhani then ran in to help after spotting one of the robbers holding what he believed to be a knife.
“It looked like a knife and I thought they were stabbing my brother,” Amirkhani told Ariel Helwani later on The MMA Hour show. “I was like, ‘I don’t care. They can stab me, too. But I’m gonna help my brother.’”
Amirkhani ran in and landed a single punch that KO’d the robber, who it would then emerge was holding a screwdriver, not a knife.
“I was like, he’s gonna die now,” Amirkhani said. “All I needed was one punch and this f*cking guy was lying on the snow. Then it was all over the news.”
