Anderson Silva
For many years long-time middleweight champion Anderson Silva appeared to be able to do no wrong, but the saying that ‘all good things must come to an end’ has proven to be particularly true in the Brazilian superstar’s case.
Chris Weidman ended Silva’s long unbeaten run with a single punch while the champion was showboating and the Brazilian would then suffer a broken leg in the rematch.
However, despite living up to his vow to make a comeback despite fears his career was over, Silva’s story would then take a stunning twist when he tested positive for two different anabolic steroids and anti-anxiety medication after a decision victory over Nick Diaz.
Silva’s reputation was damaged further with his subsequent claims that he’d mistakenly taken the performance enhancing drugs via a mysterious tainted sexual performance enhancer he’d purchased from Thailand via a training partner.
That laughably flimsy excuse failed to impress NSAC, who subsequently suspended him for a year.
Silva’s repuation suffered another blow when he failed another drug test in 2017, though USADA have since accepted a tainted supplement excuse leading to another year’s suspension.
Nonetheless, Silva’s once squeeky-clean reputation has now long since been shattered, with former foe Rich Franklin likening his fall from grace to that of disgraced cycling star Lance Armstrong.
