Wow, that was a serious cut…
Many mixed martial arts fans will tell you that striking is the most entertaining factor in a fight. Although submissions and wrestling are absolutely key for a well-rounded MMA fighter, everybody loves a good knockout.
Among the nastiest ways to finish a fight in MMA is the head kick. With correct positioning, pivoting and targeting, a well placed high kick can prove to be a brutally effective method for putting an opponent to sleep.
Head Kicks
Examples of quality head kicks are many. Once the most dominant fighter in her division, Ronda Rousey fell to Holly Holm’s horrific head/neck kick at UFC 193. Also known for his arsenal of kicks is MMA & K-1 legend Mirko Cro Cop.
Those examples showcase fighters known for KO’ing their opponents cold, but there are other advantages to kicks. If you can land the shin on the face, although it may not cause a knockout, it could open a fight-ending cut.

At URCC27, Carlo Laurel fought Alvin Ramirez, and the highlight was a gruesome one. After landing a super-clean head kick which connected with the shin bone, a nasty cut opened on Laurel.
The fight was stopped shortly after due to the amount of blood coming from the deep cut. Ramirez was announced the winner. Watch on the Youtube player below:
