Another UFC fight has been cancelled due to COVID. An unfortunate news but better to be safe than sorry. UFC Featherweight Champion, Alexander Volkanovski tested positive for COVID, which made the UFC postpone his co-main event against Brian Ortega for UFC 260.

It would have been a great stacked UFC PPV card, if they had two title fights for one event but unfortunately, the featherweight division needs to be put on halt. Hopefully the main-event of Miocic vs Ngannou 2 will not have any issues as it is the fight that card has been built.

According to Volkanovski, their team followed all the safety protocols and when he left his country he was negative. It was just his last test was positive.

Another thing worth knowing is that his teammate, Brad Riddell also cancelled his fight for a later date as UFC said due to COVID protocols. Riddell was supposedly scheduled to fight Gregor Gillespie to serve as the co-main event for the UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs Holland. It is indeed an unfortunate news for the fighters, as they already made weight and was ready.

Alexander Volkanovski was coming off a back to back fight against Max Holloway but the last fight was a controversial decision in most eyes. Meanwhile, Ortega’s last loss was against Holloway where he was battered and needed to recover for a while. Since then, he fought Chan Sung Jung and showed huge improvements in the striking department.

Speaking of Max Holloway, whoever comes out victorious in the title fight will fight Holloway. It just makes sense and no other contender has a better argument right now.

As for Ortega, he posted his reaction to the bummer news.

He wishes Alex well and is ready to fight whenever. Stylistically is will be interesting as Ortega brings something new to the game. His evolved striking is great and add his high level BJJ, could potentially give Volkanovski problems. Hopefully we get a fight date soon.
