Try to resist the obvious jokes…
Finding it hard to imagine UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem as a skinny dude? Well, many years ago ‘The Reem’ was just that. Before joining the UFC and Strikeforce, Overeem was a lanky light-heavyweight who didn’t need to cut weight.
Years later, ‘Ubereem’ was born. Although he would later go on to fail a drug test, fans remained fascinated by Overeem’s physique. Just how did the Dutchman go from skinny to huge in such a small amount of time?
Alistair Overeem’s Secret
After failing a drug test, Alistair Overeem’s comments on eating horse meat became the butt of many jokes. Although it was the only drug test he’s ever failed, critics tend to come back to these comments frequently.
Speaking during a rather comical video recently, Overeem revealed his secret to getting so big.
Overeem’s Insane Diet
“I eat 6, 7, maybe 8 times a day. I like beef, beef is good for strength. Cow beef, horse beef, I like fish. Horse is very good protein, better than beef. I eat Weetabix, nuts, fish. You’ll get big no doubt if you eat 7 times a day.”
“My mother is big and strong, my grandpa was a big guy too. If you are from a small family, you might find it hard to get big.”

5 x 300KG Deadlifts
Obviously just eating a ton will make you big, but you have to have a rigorous training regime alongside this. Combining his horse meat diet with some crazy weight lifting and of course MMA training, ‘Ubereem’ manages to stay buff.

Since joining Greg Jackson’s gym in New Mexico, ‘The Reem’ has lost a considerable amount of mass. Critics argue this is because he no longer has access to the premium ‘horse meat’ since USADA came around.
