As the world of MMA continues to wait for the champion rematch between current champ Alexa Grasso and former champ Valentina Shevchenko, Erin Blanchfield expressed her hope for an interim fight against No. 3-ranked fighter Manon Fiorot.

The bout between Grasso and Shevchenko is one of the most-awaited fights in the women’s UFC divisions. However, the plan for that was quickly put on pause, with both fighters experiencing hand injuries that required surgeries. With this, although UFC CEO Dana White clarified that the fight would be pushed, the date on when it will happen remains undetailed.

Needless to say, the delay prevents aspiring fighters from getting their title shot sooner. Blanchfield expressed frustration about this, stressing her eagerness to have the chance for the belt in the future.

“Yeah, it’s definitely stalling,” Blanchfield said in an online livestream. “I feel like I’ve had a couple No. 1 contender fights now. But you know, I’m still pretty young and gained valuable experience in those fights. … Whether it’s an interim or not, I’ll beat (Fiorot), and then I should definitely get a title next.”

In line with that, the former Eddie Bravo Invitational champion suggested the idea of UFC setting up an interim fight between her and Fiorot. According to Blanchfield, with the Grasso vs. Shevchenko depending on the recovery of the two fighters, an interim is a good option, saying it is something she “would definitely push” and “definitely be interested in.”

“I’m not sure when Valentina and Alexa are going to be ready to fight again,” said the female fighter. “I know I think they’re on a similar timeline in their recovery. I would hope that if it ends up being longer, they’d have me and Manon fight for an interim.”
