For the first time since Jon Jones’ failed UFC 214 drug test, Daniel Cormier’ teammate Cain Velasquez comments on the situation…
During the main event at UFC 214, we got a glimpse of the magnificent and dominant version of Jon Jones. Since early 2015, ‘Bones’ was either suspended or putting in subpar performances like that against Ovince St-Preux.
When he finally came back on July 29, it appeared all that madness was behind Jones. Failed drug tests, controversies with the law and addictions to cocaine and marijuana, quite the hump to overcome. If anyone could do it, surely it was Jones.
Unfortunately, the days of Jones getting himself in trouble were not over yet, as a failed drug test once again marred his return. This time, unlike in the past, anabolic steroids were found in his system.
USADA urged fans to allow Jones his due process, but the B-sample confirmed the original findings. With his future again in question, ‘Bones’ was stripped of the title and it was given back to Daniel Cormier.
Cain is Not Impressed
Former UFC heavyweight champ and stablemate of Cormier, Cain Velasquez went off on Jones. As per MMA Today, CV said Jones was dirty because he was scared to lose:
“It all comes down to people being dirty. Like, our gym, me, Daniel, we don’t need extra substances to make us better. We do it by working hard. We’ve done this since we were kids. We learned how to train, and train right, and go out there and be competitive.
So, if you bring steroids or just some kind of performance-enhancing drug into it — if it’s not allowed, it’s not allowed. We want everybody to be on the same page, so for him to do that, for Jon Jones to do that, that’s bullsh*t. That’s f*cking bullsh*t. Why? Did you not want to lose to Daniel? Is that what it was? Why?”

“We want everybody on the same playing field,” Velasquez said. “When we go out there, we want it to be even as far as that goes, and having it come down to training, preparation, and being able to fight.
The guy that goes out there and shines on that day is the guy who’s going to win, and it’s generally from working hard and being prepared — and not from anything else.”
Cormier Was Actually Way Nicer
After going through the mill again with Jones, Cormier’s message was surprisingly heartfelt:
“We want everybody on the same playing field,” Velasquez said. “When we go out there, we want it to be even as far as that goes, and having it come down to training, preparation, and being able to fight.
The guy that goes out there and shines on that day is the guy who’s going to win, and it’s generally from working hard and being prepared — and not from anything else.”
I was down and some may have kicked me but the majority of you showed compassion and love. After the fight Jones showed compassion, regardless of what has happened as humans we must show compassion.
Jon is not on this ride alone, remember this man has a family. Let’s respect that. You don’t show ur support for me by hurting others. Again I thank you for ur unbelievable support and I trust that you guys will come thru again. DC
