Saul “Canelo” Alvarez rejects PBC’s, Al Haymon in a three-fight deal. Canelo is the biggest name of boxing right now due to his guaranteed high PPV numbers being generated. All of the promoters want Canelo to be in their promotion since he is a cash cow. He has the country of Mexico behind him when he fights.

After being successful in his lawsuit, Canelo is now a free agent. He is now his own boss, and no promoter can dictate who and when he fights. Canelo is now chasing legacy and fighting fights that pose a challenge in his fights.
Al Haymon initially joined the bidding, which he offered three top fighters for a $75M dollar fight deal. The first fighter he would face would be Caleb Plant, one of the first names in the rumors that he would have faced before announcing that Callum Smith was the opponent.
The other boxer that was in the 3-fight deal would have been Jermall Charlo. Charlo is a really big threat and being undefeated could be a huge interest to Canelo as well. Charlo is the current WBC Middleweight Champion. His last performance was really impressive where he gave Sergiy Derevyanchenko a one-sided beating. Sergiy Derevyanchenko gave Gennady Golovkin a close decision fight prior to that many thought he won.
Canelo said that he would be willing to fight Caleb Plant for $25M but will not commit to a $75M three-fight deal. It seems Canelo knows how big his name is and he is his own boss. The free agency gives Canelo the freedom to decline and accept any offer.
This type of privilege is only applicable if you are the top names of boxing. One of the boxers that are famous for doing this was Floyd Mayweather where he opted out of his contract. He became his own boss as well and made bigger money than staying on a fixed contract.
Even Eddie Hearn said that Canelo is his boss and whatever Canelo wants he will be obliged. Most promoters want Canelo since it will make him the biggest cash cow in their promotion. Even ESPN’s top 1 pound for pound boxer, Terence Crawford has a hard time in generating big PPV numbers. As Bob Arum said he lost money promoting Crawford since Crawford is not that marketable.
It would be interesting what Canelo’s next move is. He could move up and face the boogeyman of the light-heavyweight division, Artur Beterbiev. There are a lot of options for Canelo since he is basically the A-side of every negotiation. Fighting Canelo offers the biggest payday the opponent can receive. Even Callum Smith accepted the short-notice offer since he knows that it will be his biggest fight purse.
Some UFC fighters even called out Canelo Alvarez for a boxing match. Most famous for calling out was Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal, but most fans know that it will not even be competitive and it will just for a money fight. Canelo has more to loss and to gain.
