Chris Weidman is not sure about his MMA future. Despite being expected to fight Bruno Silva next, the fighter can’t decide whether this will be his last or if he could still see himself fighting afterward.

Weidman and Silva will face each other on March 30 at UFC Fight Night in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Both are entering the cage with their two previous losses. Silva lost to Shara Magomedov and Brendan Allen, while Weidman experienced defeat from Brad Tavares and Uriah Hall. Yet, despite fighting an opponent with the same recent record as him, Weidman is now considering exiting the cage after the fight.

For Weidman, despite having the mental state to push forward, his body will still determine if his MMA path is still worth pursuing.

“Honestly, I wasn’t sure either,” Weidman told Daniel Cormier in an interview. “I’m setting myself up for the future, and I wasn’t sure. I was kind of listening to my body, just trying to get healthy. Mentally and motivational-wise, and technique-wise, I still think I’m top of the world – but my body’s just taking a beating.”

The fighter has a great interest in taking his next fight, especially since it will be in Atlantic City “where it all started” for him. Yet, Weidman has set the fight and his training as the element that will determine his future.

“This could be my last fight,” said Weidman. “I’m going to kind of make that decision throughout the training camp and see how I feel. If my body can handle a hard training camp again – and it might be the last one, it might not be.”
