Ciryl Gane remains undefeated as he beats a bigger and taller Alexander Volkov via unanimous decision. Gane may only have a few fights in his MMA record but he has beaten a lot of top contenders that no one could argue if he deserves to fight for the title soon.
Two judges gave all the rounds to Gane, while one judge gave one round Gane 4-1. Gane certainly offers something unique to other heavyweights, he is more technical and not just relies on his power. He could beat you in a submission, knockout and even a decision. The important thing is he gets his hand raised.
Volkov is no easy opponent as well. It offered Gane a test whether he is ready to fight for the title next. The fight was Gane’s second five round event, and it was better than the first. Even though Gane won the first one, it seemed that Dana White was not impressed as it was a bit of a boring fight but Gane played is safe against Rozenstruik.
When asked what he wants next, he asked for a title shot. He said that he is more than ready to face the winner of Francis Ngannou vs Derrick Lewis 2. The only other fighter that could get the title shot next is Jon Jones but the question is will the UFC and Jones come up with an agreeable deal.
Gane is good in establishing his distance and strike at will. His striking defense is also great which is unusual at the heavyweight division. His movement is pretty fast and uses his footwork better than a lot of contenders. Will Gane be able to capture the heavyweight crown by the end of the year?
As for Volkov, it is back to the drawing boards. He is still a top 5 heavyweight and outside of the top 5, he is pretty much one of the best fighters you could ask for at heavyweight. He could choose to fight Rozenstruik or even Stipe, if offered.
