For real bro?
The madness continues to swirl around UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. After being cut from UFC 200 and his rematch with Nate Diaz, ‘The Notorious’ went deep in to a stand off against the promotion.
As predicted by many, the UFC beat McGregor in similar fashion to how the Irishman squashed Jose Aldo at UFC 194. It seems that for all the money and eyeballs McGregor brings to mixed martial arts and the UFC, it will never be enough to surpass the Zuffa brass.
Perhaps the mad trash McGregor talked is actually playing against him, anyone who saw his social media meltdown might well agree with that statement. Perhaps the most unexpected outcome of his temporary retirement and beef with the UFC is his rumoured boxing match.
Out of nowhere came talks of a super fight with retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather, and apparently it’s a lot more legitimate than we all first thought. ‘Money’ confirmed he is in talks with McGregor for a huge bout that would smash the all time PPV figures in both sports combined.
Drips and drabs of unconfirmed news leaked from various sources ‘close to the situation,’ but nothing concrete emerged for some time. UFC president Dana White said Floyd should ‘call him’ if he wanted to fight McGregor, and then the numbers started to come out.
Mayweather said he’d claim a staggering $100 million pay day from the proposed fight, which he also revealed was being planned for New Year’s Eve this year.
Finally opening up about his beef with the UFC, McGregor claims the figure for his dream fight with Mayweather is very different than what ‘Money’ says…
