The Notorious Releases Cryptic First Message to Fans Since UFC 223 Bus Attack and Subsequent Arrest…
Conor McGregor has been in the news for all of the wrong reasons over the past week. He’s been spotted hanging out with gangsters. He’s been criticized for a lack of consideration towards guests in the hotel he was staying in. Oh – and he spent a night in a New York police cell after attacking a UFC media bus with a dolly.
Needless to say, there’s been plenty for McGregor to reflect upon. He’s also been stripped of his lightweight title, due to inactivity. Khabib Nurmagamedov is the new face of the 155-pound division. ‘The Notorious’ has been back into a corner by his own actions. It’s a case of either fight Nurmagamedov or else lose the little credibility he has left.
It’s uncertain where he is right now, but it is believed that the Irishman is back in his native Dublin. McGregor is due back in court in June. In a cryptic Instagram post, he released a powerful statement, about learning from past mistakes.
Free Fall
Although McGregor still has many diehard fans, it’s fair to say his fanbase has thinned out substantially over the past year. Many MMA fans are frustrated with his inactivity and find it hard to get behind a fighter who doesn’t fight. Considering McGregor became the UFC’s first dual champion, it’s crazy how things have turned out.
Of course, it was only last August when he reached the zenith of his career by earning $100 million in a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. Since then he’s gone on a one-man mission to self-destruct. He’s shoved a referee at a Bellator event, been criticized for homophobic remarks and been charged with assault. Not a good career move.
Reaction
Now that his world has calmed down a little bit, McGregor has finally released a statement on Twitter. In a powerful message to his fans, he talks about it is important to learn from the past. He wrote:
“It is only a lesson if you learn from it. I learn everyday.”
Considering McGregor is expected to be hit by a number of lawsuits in the near future, this could be the most expensive lesson of his life. It is positive though that he realizes the impact of his actions. Nobody wants to see a fighter go down this sort of road.

What’s Next?
The Irishman’s next step could be entirely dependent on the outcome of his court appearance in June. The worst case scenario is that he will be hit with a 12-year prison sentence. However, it would be a major shock if that happens. The main thing he’ll be worried about is whether or not his ability to travel and work in the US is affected.
McGregor’s ability to hire the best lawyers in the business should see him through. If it does, the UFC will put him under pressure to face Khabib Nurmagamedov in what could be the biggest fight the organization has ever booked. Especially if it takes place in Russia.
