Former featherweight and current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor’s MMA return is impending. Outside of his title fights at UFC 194 and UFC 205, McGregor has fought three times.
Twice in MMA and once in boxing, but none of these fights have been title defenses. With fans and contenders at lightweight growing impatient, ‘The Notorious’ teased numerous opponents during recent interviews.
Among those listed were old rival Nate Diaz, and then-scheduled Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee. Since that interview, Ferguson and Lee competed for the interim 155-pound belt at UFC 216.
Capturing the belt and staking his claim as McGregor’s next opponent, ‘El Cucuy’ put to bed the rumors of a Diaz trilogy in emphatic fashion. Unsurprisingly, there have been talks of another contest for McGregor, but not in the MMA world.
Reports Indicate McGregor is Going to WWE
Numerous outlets are reporting Conor McGregor as being linked to a move to the WWE in 2018. Although it’s not his usual bag, the world of pro-wrestling would be a good fit, that’s according to News.com.au:
The source said: “Conor is a huge wrestling fan. His entire persona on stage he has developed from watching performers like Ric Flair and The Rock. These are the top dogs at self-promotion and trash talk. He watched these guys when he was younger.”
“This is something he’s always wanted to do. The WWE guys have asked him to do shows before with them but the timing was never really right. But this time it looks like a deal is going to be locked into place.”

“He has some things to tie up in the UFC before he can do anything else but this is a big money deal so I can’t see him turning it down.”
Last week, WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon said: “I think Conor would be a perfect fit for WWE.”
Why? $$$, That’s Why
During his pay-per-view interview, we didn’t pay either, McGregor indicated talks were underway with the WWE. Wherever there are huge amounts of money to be made, you can bet McGregor will be interested.
“Never say never. I’d love to go into that WWE and have a real knock. Let one of them have a real knock and see what’s what. But we’ll see. There are conversations ongoing. I’ve turned down some things, the conversation’s still ongoing.”
Considering he already took on the best boxer of our generation, who would ‘The Notorious’ be aiming for in the WWE? Will the UFC really be willing to let their asset trot off to another thinly veiled money-making ploy? Of course, as long as they get a taste.
