Conor McGregor camp aren’t impressed with Khabib vs. Ferguson at UFC 209…
After UFC 205, we all knew the future of the lightweight division was unclear. Even though Conor McGregor had won the 155-pound strap, nobody knew what was next. McGregor and the UFC seem to like people to keep guessing.
Firstly the promotion stripped the Irishman of the featherweight title. Before his victory against Eddie Alvarez in November, McGregor had KO’d Jose Aldo at UFC 194. Since he hadn’t defended the 145-pound belt, the UFC decided to make a cunning plan.
The Interim Plan
While UFC 206 began falling apart at the seem, the promotion tried fixing it. Although he’d announced he’d defend both belts, the UFC wanted gold on the line at UFC 206. They stripped McGregor, promoted the interim champion Aldo to full champ, then made Pettis vs. Holloway for the interim belt.
Shortly after, Pettis missed weight and so the interim belt was only available to Holloway. What a mess! Now it seems the UFC is just hungry for more interim belts. Today the news was confirmed-Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson for the interim belt:
Bullsh*t Belt
Obviously sensing the empty nature of the interim belt, a number of Conor McGregor’s camp members have reacted. First off, here’s McGregor’s longtime coach John Kavanagh with a well timed Tweet:

Then it was the turn of UFC featherweight and McGregor’s team mate Artem Lobov:

What’s the deal with all the Interim belts?
Does the UFC really think more fans will tune in for an interim belt? Considering everyone knows exactly what they are trying to do, doesn’t it seem a little pointless?
