Colby Covington revealed that he fought at UFC 296 with an injury, which later led to his loss. With this, UFC CEO Dana White commented on the fighter’s performance, calling him “slow and old.” Despite this and Covington’s reputation for trash-talking people who oppose him, the fighter refused to say anything bad against his employer.

At UFC 296, Covington challenged Leon Edwards for his belt but lost. The fight was uneventful, but it was noticeable that the American fighter performed less than what was expected from him. Many pointed it out, and “Chaos” initially blamed his loss on “little ring rust.” Nonetheless, in a recent interview with Submission Radio, the No. 5 welterweight fighter shared that he took the fight with a broken foot.

“I haven’t been able to be in touch with him (White). I’m in touch with Hunter Campbell, and they’re aware of what’s going on,” Covington said. “The UFC is aware of my foot and giving me the best care possible.”

As for White, who made a negative assessment of his performance, the fighter refused to say anything to lambast the company or the executive. For Covington, you shouldn’t bite the hands that feed. Most of all, the fighter wants to view the comments as something constructive.

“They’re aware what’s going on now with the facts, I was on a broken foot the whole fight,” Covington said. “It is what it is. I like my boss giving me hard, rough criticism because it makes me want to work harder and prove them wrong. But I respect Dana’s opinion. He’s done great things. He’s changed my life… I have no bad things to say about Dana.”
