UFC president Dana White lays down his cards…
After a record-breaking run in the UFC, it appears Conor McGregor is branching out. Much to the dislike of his employers, the Irishman seems intent on boxing. Currently binded by contract, McGregor remains defiant in hopes of fighting Floyd Mayweather.
Whether or not that fight will even happen has been hotly debated. In terms of his MMA career, McGregor has held two UFC titles, featherweight and his current championship at lightweight. Although he remains champion, his future is most definitely uncertain.
McGregor vs. Mayweather Talk
Although he’s never had a pro boxing bout, McGregor is hell bent on getting in the ring with Mayweather. As he’s sat on vacation from fighting, and Mayweather is retired, the two have engaged almost non stop.
Having already warned ‘The Notorious’ about going against his bosses, UFC president Dana White attempts to put a nail in the coffin. Speaking with TMZ, White confirmed McGregor’s next fight would be in the UFC:

Dana White’s Comments
“I don’t know where we’re at,” White said. “We’re nowhere. We’re nowhere with it. Conor wouldn’t train with him (Freddie Roach), Conor has his own team and his own crew. I expect Conor’s next fight to be in the UFC, in mixed martial arts (MMA), and it would be against the winner of Khabib and Ferguson.”
“The fight (against Floyd) is gonna be millions of dollars. The guy can make anywhere from 30 to 60 million bucks.”
“Listen, people have been doubting Conor since the day he stepped onto the scene. Khabib is awesome, Khabib is tough, but people have been doubting him since day one.”
Thoughts
Wherever will the Conor McGregor train call next? Truthfully, even in the face of White’s statements, anything can happen. Perhaps the UFC built this beast that now turns on them, maybe it was inevitable all along.
One thing is for sure, McGregor is now powerful enough that he really doesn’t need the UFC. That kind of leverage makes for uncertainty, unease among big businesses like the UFC. Watch this space.
