7. Demetrious Johnson vs. Joseph Benavidez III
Well, there is nobody else for him to fight. Johnson told media he has no plans to go up in weight and challenge for the bantamweight title, and he’s beaten all the top flyweights already. His next title defence will be his 10th, tying the record with Anderson Silva. Johnson has said he would love to get between 12 and 14 title defences to put some healthy distance between he and Silva, but who is he going to fight?
Benavidez has lost to Johnson twice and Dominick Cruz twice, and that’s it. It’s been 3 years since he last fought Johnson, and he just beat Henry Cejudo in December. He’s the clear #1 contender in the division, so what can you do but organize a third fight bout?
Last time they met Johnson KO’d him in just over 2 minutes, but this time there is more on the line for Johnson. Maybe the added pressure of tying Silva’s record could weigh hard on him, giving Benavidez an advantage. Or maybe this fight will go the same as the other two…
I’m removing scrap digest from my feed .all these articles look like they are written by a casual fan. I really hope this isn’t a 1-8 ranking of these potential fights. There is no way in hell they put Carla Esparza back in the octagon with Joanna. That is a complete mismatch. Did you see the first fight. Joanna murdered her. There’s far better options. A 3rd Gadhela fight would be much better. A Karolina rematch , or an Andrade fight. Please stop talking fights
