After initial reports that Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt would face each other at UFC 300, the promotion finally confirmed the bout.

Garbrandt first shared his interest in the fight last month. In his interview, the former bantamweight champ shared that he would rather face Figueiredo over Dominick Cruz, whom he already defeated via decision back in December 2016 during the UFC 207 event. For him, a fight with another former champ could bring him back into title contention of the division.

In the past, the two were already booked, with Garbrandt challenging Figueiredo for his flyweight belt in 2020. However, the challenger was forced to withdraw after a bicep injury. Fortunately for him, the promotion giant heard his plea for another chance, allowing them to join the historic UFC 300 event.

It will be the second bantamweight of Figueiredo, who succeeded in his division debut after defeating Rob Font via a unanimous decision last month. The former two-time flyweight champ made a shift in the class weight after his loss to Brandon Moreno, who defeated him via a TKO (doctor’s stoppage). After making the jump, “Deus Da Guerra” shared his plan of dominating the new place. However, Garbrandt, who’s a former champ in the division, is also as determined as him in securing the title in the future. “No Love” will be entering the cage with a two-fight winning streak he obtained from Brian Kelleher and Trevin Jones, with the former losing to him via KO at UFC 296.
