Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has been heavily linked to a UFC contract this week. After all the rumors and reports, Mayweather is apparently not interested. Obviously, Conor McGregor gave a very blunt response…
Its been a strange year for combat sports. Having seen Jon Jones fall to the mighty sword of USADA again, Ronda Rousey flee to the WWE and CM Punk linked to yet another UFC fight, you could say its also been highly unexpected. Well, maybe not with Jones.
Funnily enough, those aren’t the most bizarre of occurrences in 2017. For the title of the weirdest moment of the year, look no further than August 26 when Floyd Mayweather welcomed Conor McGregor to the world of boxing.
McGregor, although completely green in the boxing world, was sanctioned by the NSAC to face one of the greatest boxers of our generation. They say money talks, and that was never more true than in the case of MayMac.

Mayweather UFC Talks (Depressed Emoji)
Having seen the Irish sensation clowned by Mayweather in the ring, surely it was back to business as usual now. Perhaps not, as talks between Mayweather and the UFC were confirmed by Dana White yesterday.
We’d seen the UFC lightweight champion trounced in boxing, why not see ‘Money’ choked out for millions of dollars in 10 seconds? The prospect of this even being talked about was as farcical as it was worrying.
According to Mayweather, his rumored UFC debut will not be happening:

FightHype had the scoop:
“Exactly what I said is this: If I could make over a billion dollars before, I could do it again,” Mayweather said. “If I chose to get in the UFC and fight three fights or fight four fights and then fight Conor McGregor, I could make a billion dollars. Which I can. I could do it in three fights or even four fights — I could make a billion dollars. If I choose to get in the Octagon and fight.”
“We just don’t know what the future holds for Floyd Mayweather,” Mayweather said. “And I don’t look forward to getting back in a boxing ring, that’s what I don’t look forward to. I’m just saying I could — I’m not doing it — but I’m saying what I could do to make a billion dollars quick, if I wanted to do that. That’s what I was saying. I never said I was gonna fight in the UFC. I didn’t say that, I said if I wanted to and what I could. Could and would do is different things. I’m not gonna do it, though.”
Conor McGregor’s response was a simple, one-word Tweet:

Thoughts
Perhaps Mayweather simply woke up and smelled the coffee. There may be a good monetary gain for him to join the UFC, but how much is pooping your jocks while getting choked out really worth?
Maybe Dana White and Joe Rogan were both lying, either way, it looks like this charade has lost some steam, for now.
