In the fallout of Conor McGregor’s removal from UFC 200 and subsequently tweeted retirement, rumours persisted of a possible boxing bout between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.

Many media agencies ran with the story, some even stating that the fight had been agreed upon by all parties. Those reporters forgot that a third party, Dana White and the UFC, was never going to agree. The UFC holds Conor’s promotional rights and they do not co-promote with other organizations.

Dana White did make a statement to Floyd in the wake of the rumours however, he simply stated “If Floyd wants to fight Conor; call me, Floyd.”
While that statement may sound like Dana was open to the idea of a Mayweather vs. Conor bout, what he was really doing was reminding everyone that these things go through him and him only.

It would take a lot for Floyd to be financially motivated enough to come out of retirement. Mayweather’s estimated net worth is between $400-$650 million. In comparison, Conor McGregor’s net worth is estimated at $22 million.

Some have accused Conor of stealing some of “Money” Mayweather’s persona, though if that is true Floyd is not too upset about it.

“If he did take anything from me, if he did steal my blueprint then, I think it’s a good thing.” was Mayweather’s response.
