Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is suddenly in the news again. After vacating the championship in 2013, many believed ‘GSP’ would never return. Following four years away, the Canadian star is apparently coming back.
News broke this week that St-Pierre was targeting a comeback at UFC 206. With plenty of big rematches or fresh fights available, Toronto would make the perfect host for St-Pierre’s return.
GSP on the comeback trail
After retiring in 2013, St-Pierre claimed the drug testing in MMA needed to improve. Revealing he felt all of his opponents were on steroids, ‘Rush’ also said he had some personal demons to fight.
Since his time away from the octagon, the UFC welterweight division has seen three new champions. So far none have been able to influence the weight class as much as GSP did. He still is regarded as the greatest 170-pound champion of all-time.
Rush
Why the sudden rush to return for ‘GSP’ then? Following the new USADA drug testing coming in to force, maybe the Canadian athlete feels the timing is right. Who will he face in his first fight back?
You know Nick Diaz is on his mind…
