The UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will move up to lightweight to fight Rafael dos Anjos, leaving number one featherweight Frankie Edgar mad as hell….

It’s been a crazy year for mixed martial arts so far, and we are only 12 days deep! 2016 has seen a fight of the year candidate in the form of Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit at UFC 195, then came the Conor McGregor vs. Rafael dos Anjos news.

Jeremy Botter of Bleacher Report first broke the news this week, claiming newly crowned UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor would move up to lightweight. Set to face the champion Rafael dos Anjos, the event was said to be UFC 197.

Then came the shocking reports that ‘The Notorious’ wanted a rumoured $40 million to fight RDA, and that the contracts weren’t even signed yet. Negotiations would come to a grinding halt.

So with all this hoo-haa surrounding what’s not even a confirmed fight yet, there’s one man who’s being left out in the cold more than any other, and that’s Frankie Edgar. Let’s consider Edgar’s position for a moment.

Currently riding a red hot five fight winning spree, there’s few that argue against Edgar’s position as the number one featherweight contender. In the last eight years, Edgar has only lost in championship fights.

Defeated by decision twice by Benson Henderson at lightweight, and once when he challenged the former champ Jose Aldo’s belt at featherweight, ‘The Answer’ has been on fire ever since.

So what’s the hold up?

Esther Lin/MMAFighting Many fans argued ‘The Answer’ deserved an immediate title rematch after his razor tight bout with ‘Scarface,’ but he was passed over. This was to be the first of many times Edgar was overlooked in the years proceeding.

Now, fresh off a huge knockout of perennial contender Chad ‘Money’ Mendes, he is once again getting the cold shoulder in favor of McGregor’s move to lightweight. Even with wins over Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson, and BJ Penn since his last loss, Edgar is getting pretty much screwed here.
