Just when you thought it was over…
The dance around the subject of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor got going again recently, only this time there’s far more evidence to substantiate it. The rumours were stirred up once again only weeks ago, as both parties claimed the fight was near an agreement.
The obvious hurdle that would get in the way of such a fight is McGregor’s contract with the UFC. Fighter agreements under the Zuffa banner are notoriously hard to get out of, and come with very loopholes that can be exploited or worked around.
UFC president Dana White gave his opinion on the potential super fight, firstly shooting down the rumours as ‘gutter journalism.’ Perhaps it was an accurate statement, but either way he probably wasn’t happy with the impact the rumours were having.
Because of the situation between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and the promotion, it would be important that Uncle Dana not fan the flames. ‘The Notorious’ has been claiming that he’s ‘bigger than the UFC,’ and if the recent media attention on the Irish star is anything to go by, he’s potentially not far from the truth.
With McGregor setting his sights on a career outside the UFC, Dana White then claimed ‘Floyd Mayweather can call me if he wants to fight Conor McGregor.’ This statement instantly hit the headlines, and now Floyd Mayweather has further fuelled speculation about this fight…
