One of the best things about Israel Adesanya is that he fights as often as he can, it seemed like not so long ago when Adesanya attempted to be a two division champion. Although fell short against Jan Blachoiwcz, he also had his moments in the fight. Now he is set to face Marvin Vettori who he already beat before.
Adesanya is coming off his first loss, it will be interesting whether he will come back stronger or will the loss affect his performance. It is also worth noting that Adesanya was brutally knocked out before his UFC run. He was knocked out by Alex Pereira, but eventually became a UFC champion after.
Now he is facing Vettori and will be the main-event for UFC 263. Even though he already beat Vettori, it was a close decision win and Vettori showed moments that could prove pivotal in the rematch. Vettori has shown that his grappling might be better and and climbed his way up.
Many fans would think that there Robert Whittaker deserves to get a title shot compared to Vettori, but the timeline did not work for Whittaker. There is also an agreement that Whittaker gets to face the winner of Adesanya-Vettori 2 which is a great deal for Whittaker.
Stylistically, Adesanya is a bad matchup for Whittaker since Adesanya uses his range and counter strikes well and as we all know styles makes fights. This is not saying Whittaker has no chance against Adesanya but rather Vettori is a better matchup for Whittaker if he wants to win the title once more.
Adesanya is one of UFC’s biggest star, but will his first loss affect his market for the fans. Conor McGregor is still the cashcow despite suffering numerous losses, will Adesanya carry that same charisma or McGregor is just a different type of star?
