Jake Paul is determined not only to convince the world that he is “dead serious” about becoming a world boxing champion: “The Problem Child” also wants other boxers to view him that way. As the YouTuber believes, this will allow him to seal a deal to fight boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez soon.

Paul will be facing unfamous Andre August on December 15 at Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando. Many are doubting Paul’s choice to fight August, with commentator Sergio Mora saying the opponent is just a “paper fighter” who “fought nothing but ‘non winners.’” Despite this, Paul continues to stress his intention to face actual professional boxers, explaining why he chose August over his usual preferences for former MMA fighters or influencers as opponents.

In case he wins, Paul plans to continue to beef up his resume to get the fight he wants against Alvarez, who is known for winning multiple world championships in four weight classes, from light middleweight to light heavyweight. As the young boxer recalled, Alvarez expressed interest in facing him, translating to a huge possibility of them entering a ring together in the future.

“I think the path that I’m on now tees me up in the future to fight Canelo,” Paul told MMAFightingonSBN. “It’s even just showing him that I can go 10 or 12 rounds with you, [that] I’ve done that with real, legitimate pro boxers and beat them.

“So when I beat these guys in the year or two to come, and continue to raise the level of opposition, I think me vs. Canelo becomes a really interesting fight and something that a lot of people would be like, ‘Oh, Jake’s going to get destroyed.’ But there’s that fun thing in your mind, the same thing with Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury. ‘Yeah, but he’s the bigger guy who has punching power!’

“So it becomes this really fun, interesting fight that I think is historical, and Canelo has expressed interest in interviews, so I think we’re closer than we think.”
