Tom Aspinall’s recent interim heavyweight victory has put him in the spotlight, and Jon Jones is not the only one who has noticed him: Jamahal Hill, who is set to face Alex Pereira in a lightweight division bout, also wants to face him.
Hill is now confirmed to fight “Poatan” after UFC CEO Dana White himself announced the bout. The American already expressed enthusiasm about the fight, pointing out how the bout between Pereira and Jiri Prochazka did not impress him and that he would show the victor who the real champ is when he returns. Nonetheless, despite the excitement of fighting the Brazilian, it seems Hill also finds interest in fighting Aspinall someday when his plan to move to the heavyweight division is pushed.
“I think Tom is a stud. I think Tom is like the new prototype of what heavyweights are,” Hill told TNT Sports. “I definitely want to do my thing at 205 and go up and eventually see him too. So, Tom, get ready for me, baby – someday. I think he has great movement. I think his coaches focus on a lot of good things, the right things to give him an edge in this game.
“A lot of them have the same philosophy as my coaches have and employ with me and things like that. I think he’s definitely built the right way, the way fighters should be built. It’s exciting. I’m game. I’m always game. Any time I see somebody exciting or new, or they’re bringing something fresh to the cage, I want to test myself against that.”
The possibility of that fight, nonetheless, is still far. Currently, Hill will still have to first defeat Pereira. In case the American succeeds, there is a chance that his plan to move to another division might be pushed. Also, with Aspinall’s name being incredibly popular at this age, Hill would have to get in line to have the chance to face him.
