Bad Times For Bones…
Former undisputed UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones is at it again. After a highly controversial few years in the sport, ‘Bones’ will be out for at least another six months. His troubles continue to hinder Jones’ career.
Following a disgraceful hit-and-run in New Mexico last year, ‘Bones’ could have faced serious prison time. Avoiding a potential five-year sentence, Jones was hit with a fine, out of court settlement and community service.
Jones & Lesnar Pop At UFC 200
Then came the USADA debacle at UFC 200. The United States Anti Doping Agency caught both Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar wit banned substances in their systems. For Lesnar, the test results came after his fight with Mark Hunt.
In the case of Jones, he was not fortunate enough to fight on July 9. Just three days before the event and his scheduled rematch with Daniel Cormier, ‘Bones’ was removed form the card. After months of waiting, Jones had his USADA hearing today, and it didn’t go well.
Jon Jones Uses Tainted Viagra Defense
Much like former middleweight champion Anderson Silva in his hearing with the NSAC, ‘Bones’ is blaming viagra. Check out the statement from the USADA arbitrators, before they handed Jones a one-year suspension:
“On the evidence before the Panel, the Applicant is not a drug cheat. He did not know that the tablet he took contained prohibited substances or that those substances had the capacity to enhance sporting performance. However by his imprudent use of what he pungently referred to as a ‘dick pill’ he has not only lost a year of his career but an estimated nine million dollars. This outcome which he admits to be a wake-up call for him should serve as a warning to all others who participate in the same sport.”
Bad Times For Bones
Now that Daniel Cormier is set to make his next title defense at UFC 206, whats next for the light-heavyweight division? With Jones out until June 2017, the division continues to be crippled by the greatest talent in 205-pound history.
What a mess!
