Jon Jones is in dispute with the UFC. The light-heavyweight champion is arguably the promotion’s greatest-ever fighter, but they can’t see eye-to-eye on his financial worth. It’s a major stumbling block for both parties as they move forward. Jones even wanted to fight Francis Ngannou but they refused to up his pay.

However, an intriguing side story is emerging. ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson is coming out of retirement for a charity fight of some kind. But the most important thing is that he has got himself into phenomenal shape. This has led many veteran boxers and UFC fighters to claim they are going to take him on.

Now Jones has added himself to the list. After Tyson explained why UFC fighters can’t make the same money as boxers, ‘Bones’ decided to call out the legendary heavyweight. Who do you think would win in a boxing match?

Super Money

In short, Tyson doesn’t think that UFC fighters can make massive money on their own. He believes that they need to cross over into boxing where the real money is. He used Conor McGregor as an example after the Irishman eclipsed his previous earnings by taking on Floyd Mayweather.

“A UFC fighter will never be richer than a first-class boxer. To make a hundred million dollars, Conor (McGregor) had to fight Floyd (Mayweather)! Even if he fights Jon Jones, he’s not going to get that,” Tyson said on a live chat. “Jon Jones gotta fight me to make some super money.”

Real Fight

Obviously Jones heard his comments and the dollar signs lit up. The UFC champion immediately challenged ‘Iron Mike’ to a boxing match on the condition that they meet in the cage after. It’s a bold attempt from Jones but would he really gain much from beating a 53-year-old who hasn’t fought for 15 years? It’s fair to say that all Jones sees are dollar signs. He wrote on Instagram:
“@miketyson I’ll box you in the ring if you promise to give me a real fight in the octagon afterwards. And because I respect you so much, I promise I won’t break anything on you.”

No Chance

There is as much chance of Jones fighting Dana White in a boxing match as there is of him taking on Mike Tyson. If you’re talking about MMA then switch out White for Megan Olivi. It’s just not going to happen. Unless it does because Tyson is an absolute wildman who defies logic.
Realistically you would have to favor Jones in both situations. He is 20 years younger than Tyson and an athletic specimen. Sure he isn’t an amazing boxer, but he has tremendous distance control. However, if it was just three rounds in an exhibition format, then things could suddenly get interesting.
As for MMA, it’s not happening. 53-year-old Tyson is not going to stand there for Jones to kick out his leg. Also if he poked him in the eye, you’d imagine Tyson would bite his fingers off. It’s probably for the best that this doesn’t happen.
