Jon Jones is back for his next contest, but it won’t be in the UFC…

After some seriously dicey moments, Jon Jones is laying the track for his UFC comeback, again. During a very testing period, Jones was stripped of the light-heavyweight title by the UFC.

The reason? ‘Bones’ was involved in a highly controversial hit-and-run. Adding in his already shady incidents, the UFC had no choice but to act. Resulting from Jones’ absence was a mess in the division.

Doing The Time

Although he did come back briefly in 2016, Jones got sentenced to another year away. Getting caught with a banned substance in his system, ‘Bones’ was again in trouble. Just three days before UFC 200, he was pulled from the unification rematch with Daniel Cormier.

Now with just months left to serve on his 12-month suspension, Jones is looking for another grappling match. He already submitted Dan Henderson, and according to Submission Underground boss Chael Sonnen, Luke Rockhold is next:

Jones vs. Rockhold

“Jon Jones is working on a deal right now. Jon is likely to return, but his likely opponent is Luke Rockhold. Rockhold can grapple, (Daniel) Cormier wanted that fight too, but Jon Jones said no. He wants to save (Cormier) for his UFC comeback where he can use all his tools. Vinny Magalhaes wanted the fight too, and we really wanted him to take that fight. If he fought Vinny, it would be (Jones’) first fight in ten years that he should lose.”

There’s currently no striking allowed in the Submission Underground grappling bouts, but this would be an awesome spectacle. Jones and Rockhold already have a rivalry considering the AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) connection.
